Health Disclaimer
Exercise is not risk-free. Who should get medical clearance first, when to stop immediately, and the limits of the information on MoveWell.
This is not medical advice
The content on MoveWell is general information about exercise and training. It is not medical advice, physiotherapy, diagnosis or treatment, and it is no substitute for assessment by a qualified clinician who knows your history. If you have a health condition or an injury, speak to a doctor or physiotherapist before following any guide on this site.
Get clearance first if any of these apply
- You have heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or have had a stroke.
- You have diabetes, kidney disease or a metabolic condition.
- You are pregnant, postpartum, or within six months of giving birth.
- You have had surgery, a fracture or a joint replacement in the last six months.
- You have osteoporosis, a disc injury or a condition affecting your balance.
- You have not exercised in several years.
- You are over 65 and new to structured exercise.
In each case, appropriate exercise is usually still possible and usually beneficial — but it needs individual guidance, not a web page.
Stop immediately if
- You feel chest pain, pressure or tightness.
- You feel faint, dizzy or unusually short of breath.
- You notice an irregular heartbeat.
- You feel sharp joint pain, or pain that travels down a limb with numbness or tingling.
- You experience any sudden loss of vision, slurred speech or weakness on one side.
For the last point, treat it as an emergency and seek immediate medical help.
Individual results vary
Timelines described on this site — strength gains in 6–12 weeks, range-of-motion improvements in 3–4 weeks — are typical ranges from research and coaching practice. Your results will depend on your starting point, consistency, sleep, nutrition and health history. Nobody can guarantee a specific outcome.
Calorie and metric estimates
Calorie-burn figures are estimates from standard formulae using an average adult. They vary enormously with bodyweight, effort and fitness, and should not be used for medical or dietary decisions.
